Bible Verses About MoneyDec 10, 2020
Well hello there… Now that I have your attention, be rest assured that there will be no offering basket going round at the end of this post.
Today our discussion is aimed at shedding some light on what the Bible says about money and how from that standpoint God’s word should be the tool with which we handle our finances regardless of whether you consider yourself to be religious or not.
Interestingly, the Bible encompasses both spiritual wisdom and practical insights into money management, debt, savings and investing. With over 2000 verses pertaining to money, wealth and possessions the Bible should be the go-to for growth and eventually financial freedom.
Did you know that the subject of money makes up 15% of Jesus’ teachings?
Prosperity movements today promote ‘quick fix get rich schemes’ but the Bible offers much more, bearing in mind that ‘all scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness.’ (2 Timothy 3:16)
God's Economy In Comparison To The Worlds Economy
When you know the difference between God’s economy and the world’s economy, you will be greatly enriched with wisdom to handle money and earthly possessions of any kind. God’s word will also teach you how to avoid financial pitfalls and have a wealth mindset. God’s economy lays a lot of emphasis on purpose, faith, principles, obedience and good stewardship.
The Bible is consistent in admonishing that the world’s economy, governments and policies are not to be trusted as they are not secure and they are fleeting in nature.
Recognise that everything belongs to God and be thankful.
“Yours, O LORD, is the greatness and the power and the glory and the victory and the majesty, indeed everything that is in the heavens and the earth; Yours is the dominion, O LORD, and You exalt Yourself as head overall. “Both riches and honour come from You, and You rule overall, and in Your hand is power and might, and it lies in Your hand to make great and to strengthen everyone. “Now, therefore, our God, we thank You and praise Your glorious name.
Be responsible and faithful stewards over the wealth and possessions God has entrusted to us irrespective of the portion.
MATHEW 25:14-18 - PARABLE OF THE TALENTS
“For it is just like a man about to go on a journey, who called his own slaves and entrusted his possessions to them. “To one he gave five talents, to another, two, and to another, one, each according to his own ability; and he went on his journey. “Immediately the one who had received the five talents went and traded with them, and gained five more talents. “In the same manner, the one who had received the two talents gained two more. “But he who received the one talent went away, and dug a hole in the ground and hid his master’s money.
As mentioned earlier the Bible is full of financial wisdom. Reading Proverbs alone will get you off to a good start.
So, what is wisdom? The Bible says “Wisdom is the principal thing; therefore, get wisdom and in all thy getting, get understanding” (Proverbs 4:7)
A significant example in the Bible of one who applied God’s wisdom to finances is Joseph. From the dreams to the interpretations to the applications.
It is evidenced in the manner he prepared Egypt to deal with the famine by not only storing enough but also selling to neighbouring countries. Joseph was blessed, so was the King and so was the nation of Egypt.
